A summary of Elgin Neighborhood College’s Dental Assisting Program. An oral assistant is an essential member of an effective oral group, offering important service to both the dental expert and client. An assistant help and prepare for the requirements of a dental practitioner in intra-oral
treatments like basic dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgical treatment, prosthetic, endodontic, orthodontic, and pediatric dentistry. Other functions of an oral assistant consist of: duty for the disinfection and sanitation procedures of the workplace, laboratory treatments
such as exposing and processing radiographs, secretarial and receptionist responsibilities, and advising clients worrying correct strategies of preventive dentistry.
